Young schizophrenic man, gone berserk, shot dead on the streets by a cop. Not a gangster farce, not a Chicago street gang story, but a true incident frequently found on the headlines of international newspapers. The Canadian hosts of the first madness & arts worldfestival 2003, professionally established since 1987, have made more than a documentary drama from this tragic story.

The intro into this production by Michael Kelly lets the audience be a part of the last seconds before the shot – and when it finally rings out, when the curtain falls; it is not really a shock, but a foreseeable bracket.

In the interim of this one-act-play lies something like theatrical profiling, a prototype giving short insights, with clear-cut clips, into the inner worlds of those who have to live with the death of Vincent: Mother, brother and the cop P. C. Woods. Each rolling their individual chapter backwards. In their memory, moments and experiences from Vincent’s childhood and puberty awaken, moments of small omissions, of failed responsibilities, of unspoken words, even desperate rage and the struggle to legitimize their own conduct.

Vincent is dead. An irreversible fact. The question remaining is that of consequences - for those left behind, for the responsible authorities, and for those who standby and watch. An integral part of each performance is the following discussion with members of the ensemble and invited experts or other participants.
