VERA AND MARIE ARE DANCING – Bohnice Theatre Company / Praha / Czech Republic

Two old ladies dance the Tango in the middle of the night. The yearning, passing mood of a shellac-scratchy chanson waves around them, a Tchechow-like melancholy lies over the scene. Věra and Marie, the dream dancers, have spend most of their time in psychiatry. Moments of these years pass revue, whereby memories become independent and create biographies as they could have been. In a different time, under different circumstances. In kaleidoscopic performance scenes, headed by fairy-tale titles like „His Majesty Spider“, „Night Shadows“ or „Tango after Life“, this evening tells the story of two extraordinary people, it finds unforgettable pictures for their crashes of fate and hopes for the future. A fleetingly highlighted Pas de Deux, as original and phantastic as life itself.

The Praha Bohnice Company, an open group for all who have collected experience in psychic extreme-situations, has taken this production across half Europe. “Vĕra, Marie Tančĭ“ was developed during one production year. It is an evening about the immortal desire to live. And a wonderful homage to two of the oldest members of the Bohnice Company, Věra und Marie.
