Der Geniestreich „madness & arts catwalk“ geht auf die Festivalleiterin Paula Artkamp zurück. Ausgangspunkt war die Idee, unsere eigenen Vorstellungen, die wir uns von psychischen Erkrankungen und Menschen mit seelischen Störungen machen, radikal zu brechen und einen neuartigen Blick auf die Bruchstellen zwischen psychischer Gesundheit und Krankheit zu riskieren. In einer europaweiten Ausschreibung waren bildende Künstler, Mode-Designer, Kunsthochschüler sowie Kreative aller Couleur aufgerufen, die Entsprechungen psychischer Krankheitsbilder in ihrem jeweiligen Medium, mit ihren spezifischen schöpferischen Mitteln zu finden und bahnbrechende „madness & arts“- Kollektionen zu entwerfen. Der Fantasie der Künstler, ganz gleich ob Profi oder Passionierter, waren bezüglich Mut und Material keine Grenzen gesetzt. Gefragt war Experimentelles, Assoziatives, Verstörendes, Verführerisches. Aus der Vielzahl der eingereichten Entwurfsskizzen und - Fotos sind 65 Modelle von 25 Bewerbern aus Finnland, Holland, Österreich und Deutschland ausgewählt worden. Die ästhetisch ungewöhnlichen Kollektionen wurden in einem inszenierten catwalk (Regie: Paula Artkamp, Choreografie: Tamami Maemura, Musik: Kai Niggemann) in einer Industriehalle präsentiert. Auf dem hell erstrahlten weißen Laufsteg setzten die Grenzgänge ungekannte „Mode-Maßstäbe“.

The stroke of genius ”madness & arts catwalk“ was created by festival director Paula Artkamp. Starting point was a European wide competition, where artists and fashion designers were called to create experimental and associative analogies to common forms of mental illnesses in their designs. The highlights were selected; 60 creations of artists from Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Finland. These models were presented on a catwalk, in a congenial setting of industrial atmosphere in the Osmo halls of the Münster harbour. The brilliant borderline performance between fashion and projection, between dreams and nightmares of the unconscious, reveals new perception forums.
The members of the jury, Annette Görtz (certified designer), Victoria Greiter (professor of fashion design) and the total artist Prof. Timm Ulrichs selected the winners. First price: ”Exile“ devised by the Finnish team of artists Sampo Lehtinen, Tea Latvals, Jenni Autio and Oskar Patila. Second price: ”re.in.car.nation“ by Ella Haberlach from Reutlingen. Third price: Kathrin Hauer from Berlin. The audience price went to Eva Lorenbeck from Münster.

female priests of gloom appear, where alone the sight of their copper-pikes pierced bodies' causes pain. [...]
Other gown presentations turned into celebrations of hedonic nonsense. Received with applause, a high priest of Dadaism prances onto stage. Vested in a robe of buns with bread on his head and feet; the model carried the title ”The Divine Delusion“, designed by Stephan US from Münster. [...]“
Jury member Timm Ulrichs: ”The whole thing was a theater production in itself, a complex psychodrama, touching, exciting, in every way impressive and convincing for everyone.“
Johannes Bayer, actor with Sycorax: ”This catwalk was really transgressing borders, a magnet for the audience and maybe the highlight of the festival - both the location and the realization (choreography and music), the models (perfect poise) as well as the ideas … Certainly, the catwalk was the most elaborate project of the festival, but a great success. As ludicrous as the idea was - to create costumes that show different forms of craziness - as well did it worked and was hardly offensive. Thank you, Paula.“
